What to know before you get a quote
How solar panels perform in Scotland
Solar panels turn daylight into electricity, so they keep working on bright, cool and overcast days. Scotland has long days from late spring to early autumn, when a well-placed array does most of its work. Winter output is lower, which is why a good design looks at the whole year rather than a single sunny afternoon. Cool air also helps panels run efficiently, so a breezy day in Fife or Ayrshire is not a bad day for solar.
What makes a roof suitable
South-facing roofs are ideal, but east and west roofs also work well, often spreading generation across the morning and evening. The surveyor checks the pitch, any shading from chimneys, trees or neighbouring buildings, and the condition of the slates or tiles. Traditional Scottish roofs with natural slate need careful fixing so the roof stays watertight, and that is planned before any work is booked.
Planning, listed buildings and conservation areas
Most houses can have panels fitted under permitted development, but listed buildings and properties in conservation areas can need consent from the local council. This is common in parts of Edinburgh, Glasgow and many historic towns. If your home may be affected, we explain what is needed during the survey so there are no surprises later.
Getting more from your panels
The electricity you use as it is generated is the most valuable, because you are not buying it from the grid. Running the washing machine or dishwasher during the day helps. A home battery takes this further by storing spare daytime power for the evening, when most households use the most electricity. Any surplus can be exported under an export tariff once your system is registered with your supplier.
What your written quote includes
Your quote sets out the panels, inverter, mounting system, scaffolding, electrical work and expected yearly generation in kWh for your roof. It explains the assumptions behind the estimate in plain English so you can check them. There is no obligation to go ahead, and we install through MCS-certified partners if you decide to proceed.
Working with us across Scotland
We arrange surveys and installations for homes and businesses from the Borders and Dumfries and Galloway to Fife, Tayside, Aberdeenshire, the Highlands and the central belt. Our team is based in Scotland, so we understand the housing stock here, from sandstone tenements and granite terraces to harled cottages, former council homes and new builds. Weather, exposure and roof type all shape how a system is designed and fitted, and these are considered from the first conversation.
What we will and will not promise
We do not quote standard figures for every home, because results depend on your roof, your electricity use and your tariff. Instead, your written quote explains the expected generation or storage in kWh and the assumptions behind it, so you can check them or ask questions. There is no pressure to proceed and no obligation. If something would not suit your property, we will say so plainly. We install through MCS-certified partners, and the documents you receive after installation explain your warranties.
