Local guide: Air Source Heat Pumps for Perth & Perthshire Homes
Perthshire homes and heating
Perthshire ranges from Georgian and Victorian stone houses in Perth to cottages, farmhouses and modern estates around Crieff, Auchterarder, Blairgowrie, Aberfeldy and Pitlochry. Many rural properties are off the gas network and rely on oil, LPG or electric heating, which makes a heat pump especially relevant. Solid stone walls and older windows raise heat loss, so we assess insulation alongside the heat pump itself.
Siting, noise and permitted development
In Scotland, many air source heat pump installations fall within permitted development, subject to conditions on size, position and distance from boundaries. Listed buildings, and some locations in Perth and Kinross Council conservation areas, may need consent. Modern units run quietly, but we still site them away from neighbours' windows, on a solid base, with clear airflow and room for maintenance.
Cold weather performance
Perthshire winters can be properly cold, with glens and valley floors holding frost and occasional snow. Heat pumps keep working in these conditions, running periodic defrost cycles to clear ice from the outdoor coil. Efficiency dips on the coldest days, which is allowed for in the design. Raising the unit slightly off the ground keeps it clear of lying snow.
Survey and written quote
Our survey covers room-by-room heat loss, existing radiators and pipework, hot water needs and the outdoor unit position. We explain whether any radiators need upsizing and where a hot water cylinder would go. You then receive a written, no-obligation quote. We install through MCS-certified partners. Interest-free credit up to £30,000, subject to status. Call 0141 230 0198 to book.
